We arrived at Hanoi railway station at around 5.15am, the staff from Golden Sun Hotel picked us up to the hotel, although it was not dawn yet, there were a lot of people exercise and joging around the Hoan Kiem Lake.
After taking a rest and freshen up, we followed a ‘36 streets’ walking route which we got form the internet to explore the Old Quarter.
When we got to the “secret café’, we were delighted with the environment and expected to enjoy a breakfast with French bread and Vietnam coffee while viewing the Hoan Kiem Lake in distance. We were very disappointed when we heard that they served only Vietnamese noodle and decided to look for another place for breakfast.
After taking a satisfactory breakfast (with French bread and coffee) at a café in a hotel nearby, we began to explore the various trades at the Old Quarter.
Meat Stall and Vegetable Stall outside a Souvenir Shop
Motor "Taxi"
Heavy Traffic
Lunch at Tamarind Cafe
Dong Xuan Market
We went to watch the Water Puppet Show after dinner at a restaurant near Golden Sun Hotel. Our hotel is near the upper left corner of Hoan Kiem Lake (with a red star on the card), and the Puppet Show theatre is near the upper right corner of Hoan Kiem Lake, the distance is about 10 minutes walk. As we were not very sure about the exact location and forgot to check with the hotel staff before going out for dinner, we decided to take a taxi there. Due to the one way traffic, the driver had to drive round the lake from the upper left corner to the upper right corner. We were yet to have a chance to stroll round Hoan Kiem Lake, so we took this as a substitute.
